This is the internet…

We’re talking about marketing…and how it’s a game.

But it is not an internet game you’re thinking.

Welcome to marketing strategies that are fun.

If you’re struggling to find more income, have you stopped to ask if it’s because you’re just not into it? Or if maybe you’re listening to the wrong people and following some cookie-cutter advice that just isn’t working? No worries. There are lots of ways we sabotage our playful sides when it comes to work, but work does not have to suck. You’re not alone in this.

Too many times, we read or hear about the “secrets” of the best marketing methods, and while about 1% of them are true, that’s not to say that all of these hyped-up tactics can’t help. You have to choose which ones you’re into. Plain and simple. If 99% of the marketing tips out there can have some kind of reward tied to them, try them all out and see which ones you enjoy. If you hate Pinterest, then get off of it. Or give it to someone else. If you love Facebook, invest more into it. Have fun. That’s the bottom line here.

If you’re all work and no play, then you’re going to struggle and burn out. Get out of the fake to-do lists everyone tells you about marketing and get into your own game.

Take video games for example, many give a thumbs down to anyone who plays. Want to know the truth? Video games help many people learn, get creative, feel more positive in life, find a healthy escape when trauma hits, train their brains to find solutions to conflicts, and much more. Who said games can’t be effective in our lives?

Why else do we give babies puzzles to play with? You know, as the adult, that these games are helping your kid learn their ABC’s, but to them, it’s a slot machine with shiny lights and cute fluffy characters telling them what to do next – pull the lever and watch what comes up. You see this with gaming apps where adults even pay money to advance. Aside from the argument that games are addictive, this doesn’t mean we should abstain from them.

Same with your digital marketing work. In your career, you crave games. You crave fun. No one likes to sit through a lecture with a boring monotoned instructor telling us how to do anything. So why make your marketing efforts boring? If you’re not having fun, you’re probably going to quit. It’s like the lawyer who drops out and applies to work as a bagger at a grocery store. Sure, one makes more money, but the other allows more time for play and relief. In a sense, this ex-attorney will probably make more money by being a bagger because they’re doing something that opens their time which allows them to keep their mind excited and build on creativity. Cue side hustle. Time flies when you’re having fun.

Don’t ever forget that rest is abundant. Don’t for a moment think that working all day every day is leading you to success. Rather, play in the game. Do something radical and just have fun with your marketing. How? We talk all about it in our blog. Join us as we break the rules of common marketing standards.
